Valentine's Day Cupcakes & Pie Form Cake Stand
It's been years now that I've been saying "I need a cake stand". Why I never bought one is beyond me, however, since I never did buy one I decided now's the perfect time to MAKE one!
Then when I decided to make one I thought "I can't show it without some delicious cupcakes to display on it!" So that lead me to my next decision to get baking...yum!
Hope you enjoy this two-in-one cake stand & cupcakes post!
Here's what you'll need for the cake stand:
Pie form or something similar like those stove burner covers (found this pie form at Goodwill for $2)
Spray primer (Hobby Lobby 30% off)
Spray paint (color of choice, I got mine at Hobby Lobby 50% off)
Candle stick (I bought this one at IKEA for $5)
Sharpie
Hot glue gun & glue
Now onto the cupcakes!
This is cheap but a good basic set of decorating tips
(making the pink sugar)
Easy-peazy.
Frosting Recipe
I took a cupcake decorating class at a place called What's Cooking and they gave me this recipe. It's the BEST frosting for easy decoration and it's super tasty!
8 oz unsalted butter (1 stick), room temperature
4 oz shortening, room temperature
1 tsp vanilla
2-3 Tbsp milk
4 cups powdered sugar
Directions:
Combine butter and shortening in a stand mixer on medium-high until creamy, about 3
minutes. Add vanilla and milk and blend. Add powdered sugar, a cup at a time,
blending
on low until incorporated, scraping sides of the bowl. Blend until fluffy, about 4
more minutes.
Fold down the edge of the frosting bag to eliminate mess.
Squeeze the frosting all the way down to the tip.
For this frosting design I don't use a tip, it makes it fatter.
Sprinkle the pink sugar over the frosting.
Happy Valentine's Day & Happy Crafting!

Thank you! You've got a great site too! I didn't actually make the words go away it's just the picture makes it look like they aren't there. I figured that anytime I use it it will have something sitting on it so it didn't matter. I'm sure you could puddy it before you paint it though. I forgot to mention that I bought the pie form at Goodwill for $2. I'm sure you can find one's without words too :) Thanks for stopping by!
DeleteI ADORE the cakestand!!! Would love it if you came by and linked up to my Manic Monday Linky Party!

Thanks for sharing.
Where can I buy the cake decorating set?
ReplyDeleteWow!...what a great idea..thanks for sharing it :)
ReplyDeleteThe recipe calls for 8oz of butter but says 1 stick. Butter has 4oz in a stick. So do I use 1 stick of butter (4oz) or do I use 2 sticks (8oz)? Sorry....this is my first time trying to make frosting on my own and I just wanna get it right. Lol. ;)
ReplyDeleteHi so I apologize but I posted this 3 years ago. I'd assume it's a full 8oz but I can't be 100% certain.
